Picture quotes

So I absolutely love those pictures that are quotes. I adore them, I would put them in frames all around my house if I could. I have never quite been sure how on earth to do them myself... until now. Now I have figured it out, and am very proud of myself, so here are a few of my first ones. Some I like better than others.

Hmm... Where is this from? :)

Mockingjay Dress!!!

"Wonderingly, I lift my long, flowing sleeves into the air, and that's when I see myself on the television screen. Clothed in black except for the white patches on my sleeves. Or should I say my wings.
Because Cinna has turned me into a Mockingjay."            -Catching Fire Chapter 17

I love the picture, not quite what I picture in the book, but still very pretty. :)

Book Review: The Titan's Curse

Title: The Titan's Curse
Author: Rick Riordan
Rating: 4/5
(Read my reviews of the earlier books The Lightning Thief, and The Sea of Monsters.)

Ahh more Greek myths, more Percy Jackson, and lots more adventure! I have always enjoyed how Riordan introduces new characters in every book, and keeps the old ones. It gives it an almost fresh feeling in every book to have new myths come up and new characters.

One should always expect humor with Rick Riordan and this book does not disappoint. My family loves to quote things, books, movies, commercials, all kinds of quotes. Some quotes I know because my parents have used them, I haven't actually seen the movies, or read the books that they come from. Percy Jackson is one of those quotable books. My sisters and I drove our dad crazy with all the quotes we were pulling out, and then laughing hysterically over.

The story is grabbing and pulls you in, as usual it is difficult to put down. I really like these books for a kind of break. A fun break. Great for when you are sick and don't want to have to think to hard about what you are reading.

A new hair do

So I am a hair kind o person. I like to do hair. Granted I do not always have time to do my hair the way I want to in the morning, so most of the time I end up just putting a hair band, or do a plain old braid. So I always like to find a new easy hair style that works for me and don't take a lot of time. I was thrilled to learn this new style from Gwen at Femininity and Daydreams for doing a tutorial on the Katniss braid. I have sadly not seen The Hunger Games movie yet! I will probably be waiting for it to come out on DVD so we can get it from Netflix. *sigh* I have however seen the trailers several times *cough* on youtube. Anyway here is how my braid turned out.

One thing I think is good to note it that this uses the Dutch braid not the French braid. I had not idea that they were two different braids. Although I am sure most of you all ready knew this and are going duh Elizabeth. But I didn't and now I do.

Also I didn't use any heat of any kind. I have how ever french braided my hair while it was wet, slept on it undid it and then did this which can add a little wave it you want that.

Also has anyone noticed that this braid is pretty much like what Katniss wears for her first interview. Here is the description in the book.
"Then Venia goes to work on my hair, weaving strands of red into a pattern that begins at my left ear, wraps around my head, then falls in one braid down my right shoulder." -The Hunger Games

My Pencil quirk

So I have a weird quirk. I am very particular about the pencils I use. They have to be decent quality, not those cheep things with all those pictures on them those are horrible! I like it when the are long as well, but I must forgo this pleasure sometimes. Those erasers that you can put on the ends when you eraser runs out or just is a bad eraser, I like to use those with all of them, they can just get in there are erase parts that are tricky to get at. And finally I absolutely must have a nicely sharpened point. There is nothing that can compare to a well sharpened pencil.
So yeah that's my pencil quirk.

Happy Mother's Day

I think many times we take for granted how much our mothers do for us. It is easy to not think that much about how much our mothers do. I am so grateful for all that my mother does for me. Some of the things I am grateful for are with my mother are..

  • Being my chauffeur
  • Being my teacher
  • My friend
  • Listening to me
  • Being patient with me
  • Cooking food
  • Reading aloud to me when I was little
  • Helping me to love books

Happy Mother's Day to all mother's! I hope you all have a lovely mothers day!

Book Review: The Sea of Monsters

Title: The Sea of Monsters
Author: Rick Riordan
Rating:
Summary: (I have decided that I don't like to do summaries for other books in a series. Just something I have figured out about me.)
Here is my review of the first book The Lightning Thief

I pretty much have a lot of the same things to say about this book that I did about the first. It was really hard to put down, I loved getting to know the characters more. I laughed at Percy's humor, and the chapter titles. Another book that makes me laugh out loud. I think it is good to note that this is the shortest book in the series.  There are a few character additions that I think add a lot of humor to the books.

Perhaps my favorite part of this book is that it has several Greek myths in it. I liked how he incorporates the myths into the modern times. It is very creative. The story is well told and very enjoyable. It is one of those books that is really nice to read after having read a lot more deep books. It is fast and fun.

Like the last book it was so hard to put down. You just want to keep reading it. My sisters and I devoured the book. I am very glad that my parents got the books for us for Christmas, we can read them over and over. :)

Safe and Sound

Listen to this song! Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift featuring The Civil Wars. Sorry I can't post the video in here. YouTube kept saying it could not be played on this cite. The link will take you to it though.

I really love this amazing song. I fell in love with it even before I read the books, but know that I have I like it even more! There is no one person in the books that it works for and it is so true for anyone. It could work for every one and anyone. Rue, Katniss, Peeta, Prim, anyone from district 12, or just any one from anywhere! I think that is what I like most about it, and the simplicity of it, the soft melody with mostly the guitar as the main instrument. I love the music video too. There are quite a few references too the book that I caught in the video. Hopefully the commercial will not be bothersome.

May the odd ever be in your favor!
